Garden derives from the multi-media documentation of a public sound intervention installed at Stanley Park peninsula in Vancouver on November 5, 2010. An amplifier broadcasting the sound of ocean waves was hidden behind the bushes alongside the seawall, causing instantaneous disorientation, confusion, or pure curiosity for the passersby. A park is a heterotopic place within the urban landscape, a utopian island surrounded by normal realities. The video arrangement constructing a further mystic space, the ambiance sound brought back to the gallery, and the broken but subsequently grander 'triple rainbow' converge on the idea of illusion and artificiality. |
