Tong Dizhou's Street Lamp
Polyurethane resin, bulb, lampshade, clay, wood, lamp, wire

Tong Dizhou (May 28, 1902 – March 30, 1979) was a well-known Chinese embryologist. An article I learned in elementary school told a story about him: when Tong was young, he did the worst in math class. Then he studied hard and read under the street light near the school gate every morning before the dawn. Day after day and year after year, he finally became a distinguished biologist. The sculptural installation is made from a surreal and romantic impression in my mind about the narrative and related educational issues.
