Universitato Simon Fraser | University's official sign |
Acrylic paint, plywood, timber | |
Universitato Simon Fraser was a temporary public art project installed at the Burnaby Campus of Simon Fraser University in April 2009. A university sign was built in accordance with the appearance of the official sign at one-third scale and installed on a slope by the East Campus Road. The plywood-made two-dimensional sign was painted to look like the original three-dimensional one, which was made of concrete. "Universitato Simon Fraser" is the translation of "Simon Fraser University" in Esperanto, the most widely accepted constructed universal language. The physical environment of the location where the sculpture was installed and the way people passed by it resembled the original site where the official university sign situated. |
